Ray tracing quality – This only affects whether car models in the Forza Vista viewing mode use ray-traced reflections, or the standard cube map-based reflections you'll see in the main game. As explained above, ray tracing can afford a minor level of extra detail, and because you don't need sky-high frame rates for a viewing mode, it's worth leaving this setting on High. From the aforementioned settings, you can also change other elements such as subtitles on/off, text size of subtitles, background opacity, keyword highlighting, offline game speed, interface visuals and more.
If you are a youtuber or a streamer, make sure to turn ON streamer mode so that you are protected from copyright strikes due to the music being played on the radio. Go ahead and explore all the available settings related to the gameplay, graphics and cars so that you can have the best possible experience while playing. The Nacon Rig Pro Compact does exactly what it says on the tin, providing an Xbox-style controller that is more diminutive than the first-party models.
This makes it a better choice for the significant percentage of the world's population that has smaller hands. Even the middle buttons - Menu, Select, Share - have been moved closer to extremities of the controller to make these oft-useful keys easier to press. The Pro Compact feels relatively well made, and unlikely to break, but its light weight makes it almost feel a little hollow despite its robust exterior. This Nacon controller also comes with Dolby Atmos for Xbox and PC; just install and run the Dolby Atmos app from the Windows or Xbox store with a headset connected to get a free lifetime license (normally $15). There's also a Pro Compact app for both platforms that allows you to customise the button assignments, stick sensitivity, and so on. All in all, it's a convincing package given that it costs less than a standard Xbox controller.
If you're reading this article, you're probably got the need for speed. The PCMag pit crew loves a good racing game, so we have several recommended titles that you should try. Admittedly, our tastes lean deep into the arcade and kart side of things.
We're expanding the field with upcoming reviews that explore hardcore racing simulations, such as Assetto Corsa Competizione, Automobilista, and Project Cars. Right now, you should check out our favorite racing games on PC. The SteelSeries Stratus Duo is another clever controller; this time it's all about supporting multiple platforms. As well as connecting to PCs via a 2.4GHz USB dongle, the Stratus Duo can also connect to Bluetooth devices like phones and tablets when a switch is flicked on the back of the unit. Battery life is lower when you're using Bluetooth mode, but given your phone is best-suited for short play sessions, this isn't a massive concern.
The Stratus Duo works on both iOS and Android, but it is worth remembering that not all games support gamepads natively. However, for playing Fortnite or an emulated SNES title, the Stratus Duo works great. While the controller's build quality seems sound and the controls feel accurate, the button layout isn't ideal - I found it tricky to tap the middle buttons without getting tangled up in the thumb sticks. It's also disappointing that the SmartGrip accessory for actually mounting the controller to your phone is a $10/£10 optional add-on - for the price, it really ought to be in the box. The Horizon Arcade has also undergone some significant changes.
Some leaderboard issues have been fixed, and bugs causing EventLab props to appear incorrectly have also been taken care of. At the time of this writing,Steamalone has a ridiculous number of pages devoted to competitive driving (that's not factoring in racing games from other game stores). Granted, some of the listed titles most certainly arenotracing games. For example,Rocket Leaguefeatures wheeled vehicles literally speeding toward a goal, but it is unquestionably a sports game . Likewise, EmergeNYC, a simulation game in which you jump into the shoes of the NYPD, FDNY, or EMS and attempt to save lives, is not a racing game.
Halo Infiniteincludes a sizable list of graphical options, with 19 settings to tweak — ignoring the dynamic resolution and sensory effect options, as well as the tiny UI elements. There isn't a single setting that represents a big gain in performance, unlike Forza Horizon 5,where we saw a 14% increase in our average frame rate with a single setting change. In Forza Horizon 5 create your own expressions of fun with the powerful new EventLab gameplay toolset including custom races, challenges, stunts, and entirely new game modes. Customize your cars in more ways than ever before with new options such as the ability open and close convertible tops, paint brake calipers, and more. Use the new Gift Drops feature to share your custom creations with the community. Playing Forza Horizon 5 on a phone might not be ideal if you're a more competitive racer.
If I did that while playing on my phone, I don't think I'd keep up. Longtime series fans will appreciate Forza Horizon 5's varied Mexico setting, ridiculously packed modes, and new features (the create-a-track EventLab, in particular). Newcomers will be wowed by the racer's many, creative riches. In short, Forza Horizon remains the best racing game series, and Forza Horizon 5 is yet another example of why it's so beloved. Microsoft makes a big deal of accessibility, including in its flagship events, and its Xbox games are continuing in that spirit.
Connectivity is handled via a 2.4GHz wireless USB dongle, with the option for a wired Micro USB connection if you'd prefer. Battery life was excellent in our testing, with the C40 TR only requiring a couple of top-ups in weeks of use. The package is completed with a hard case for the controller and its accessories. If you play on both PS4 and PC and you're willing to invest in a premium controller, this is a worthy choice. Horizon 1 was set in Colorado, part two in France and Italy. The third installment took us to Australia and part four to Great Britain.
According to a recent leak, the arcade racing game is set in Japan! About two years ago, images circulated that showed a map of the game in the Land of the Rising Sun. The dynamic resolution and quality scaling option that has long been in the series' menus has returned. And if your system needs to use it, the game will do its best to hit the target. Of course, the frame rate can also be limited to further assist with any necessary adjustments.
I do not quite remember when I was last able to say that about such a great game on PC. But on closer inspection, you can really see other ways in which Playground has tried to use resources efficiently. No matter how nice it is to screw up the settings, playing on these machines can sometimes be a real pain. We're all been there where a game that worked just fine yesterday just randomly decides to say "Deuces! Then you end up spending hours on Reddit, Google and YouTube trying to figure out what happened instead of actually getting to play it. Or it may be that the game loads, but it just does not behave very well on your system.
You meet the requirements and your settings do not go beyond that. And yet there is the notch, hiccups and just generally poor performance. In all my years of PC gaming, I do this very rarely ever does not find myself in such situations and I am sure many others understand the feeling.
Playground Games' latest open-world racing game, Forza Horizon 5, was released to premium customers last week and will be available to everyone else this week. The open-world arcade simulation racing game is currently set in Mexico and has returned to North America for the first time in nine years since the original Colorado-based game. One of the things Playground Games and Turn 10 mentioned is that Mexico is the largest map ever developed for the Forza Horizon franchise. WRC 10 is stuffed with features that simulation racing fans want.
Its career mode and various solo and multiplayer options provide hours upon hours of playtime. Overall, this is another impressive effort from KT Racing that honors the World Rally Championship's legacy, despite a few notable bugs. The Codemasters-developed Dirt 5 hearkens back to the 1990s, a time when Colin McRae Rally and Sega Rally Championship elevated "extreme" racing games. Like those games, Dirt 5 isn't concerned with realism or deep customization options; instead, the rally racer wants you to barrel your way to victory on winding, mud-covered tracks.
The Scuf Instinct and Scuf Instinct Pro are deeply customisable controllers for Xbox consoles and PC. I opted for a controller with an interesting topographical map theme in blue and gold, matching this with mono-colour face buttons, black sticks, and grey d-pad, shoulder buttons and triggers. There are tons of options here, with eleven elements you can tweak - including less cosmetic changes like ripping out the rumble motors for a lighter gamepad or opting for different shape sticks. (Scuf's earlier Xbox One era Prestige controller has even more colour options - the firm assured me that the Instinct series will have a similar number of options eventually). The Pro adds rubber grips and four rear buttons - fittingly, features that may prove handy for high-level play but are easily dispensed with to save some money on what is already an expensive proposition. Trailers and screenshots of the arcade racing game are therefore not yet available.
Should this change, you will be the first to know on EarlyGame. Steamrip is the arena for free games, it allows you to download all your favorite games completely free. All Games are Pre-Installed, which means you don't need to install the games.
Our games are compressed and no content has been removed, which decreases the game size. We reorganized the download method and we will strive for being the legit platform for free pre-installed games without any cost. The game starts off with an amazing guitar tune to signify your presence in Mexico. But as the game launches, you hear the narrator's voice over the music.
It tells you to press A to continue, press X for accessibility etc. If you don't want this feature, there's a way to disable it. Many players on Reddit are mentioning that they are not able to find a solution to this problem. Don't worry, this is not a bug and you don't have to uninstall the game. With all the different products I review within a given year, it's simply couple for the course to fiddle with the settings menu in a hot minute. And yet I have been able to enjoy Forza Horizon 5 as if it were the console version.
That is, I have simply been able to just start it and play it. " is the only way I can describe how Forza Horizon 5 running on my machine. At the first launch, the game went to "High" preset by default. I adjusted it just a bit, changed a few settings to Ultra and left the rest at High, all the while keeping the frame rate target at 60 fps and the resolution at 1920x1080p.
Between my RTX 2060 and Core i7, Forza Horizon 5 has spun with as the slimmest jet. No hiccups, no nicks, tremors, memory leaks – no problems at all. Turning the setting down to Low, we increased our average frame rate by nearly 11%, and in the heated action ofHalo Infinite, the drop in visual quality is hard to make out. You can turn reflections off entirely, but that's a visual change you'll notice. We didn't see any performance between Low and Off, either. As for other PC features, there is of course unlocked frame rate, ultrawide monitor support and full support for the Xbox controller haptic feedback on Steam.
Also, there is ray tracing in Forza Vista mode for glorious screenshots. Moreover, it looks like another issue is preventing players from joining a convoy with the game getting stuck on an infinite loading screen. Players say they are disappointed since they are unable to enjoy the game with their friends. Yes, the graphics are amazing and are a joy to take in on a big screen. But Forza Horizon 5's accessible gameplay and bevy of customizability options means it translates really well to something the size of a smartphone. I've been playing the game via console streaming with my iPhone 12 Mini plugged into a Backbone One controller, and I've been surprised at just how great a fit it is.
You don't even need a fancy GeForce RTX or AMD Radeon 6000 series GPU to enable ray tracing, albeit because it's used in what the UK government would call a very specific and limited way. Engaging the High graphics preset produced an average of 46fps in Forza Horizon 5's built-in benchmark, and always steered clear of the 30fps baseline. Dropping down a level to the Medium preset also produced a smoother 57fps average, though I personally found High was fine.
If you want something even lighter, there's the rebranded Forzathon Live. Now dubbed Horizon Arcade on Forza Horizon 5, it offers 12 co-op minigames — for whoever is in the pink circle at the time of starting. That can include stuff like smashing piñatas, doing super jumps, breaking speed records, and so forth. You can also use a new Forza Link system — it's in the bottom-left of your HUD — to speed up matchmaking.
It behaves contextually, so it will try to find players for the events you're close to. Now, with Forza Horizon 5, as polished as a game of this ilk can be, there are still issues that plague the game. From unknown crashes to teleporting cars, there are simply some bugs that have slipped through the cracks for players to both enjoy if they're funny, or rage at if they interrupt their race. As developers are being pushed to the limit, especially during times where some employees are having to work from home on a permanent basis, even AAA games can be released with a whole host of issues and bugs.
Moreover, even if the game has been playtested a hundred times, there's no replacement for thousands of players jumping in and doing their best to break as much as they can. This, therefore, means that no matter what, there will always be some glitches that occur. We particularly liked the inclusion of taller thumb sticks, which allow for a higher level of control after a short adjustment period. The two rear buttons here are also cleverly implemented, sitting naturally beneath your fingers with sufficient resistance to prevent accidental presses. Each can be bound to any other button in a matter of seconds, without the need to touch software or change profiles, which is a nice touch. We used each of the controllers listed for at least two weeks - and in some cases, years - testing them in games like Horizon Zero Dawn, Forza Horizon 5 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
We evaluated each gamepad in terms of its suitability for different PC gaming genres, its ease of use and its depth of features. I would not mind that - but I'm kinda biased, because I became massive fan of Forza Horizon series. It's just such a great balance of arcade fun and semi-sim driving mechanics with a lot of good physics.
Your Ultimate Horizon Adventure awaits Explore the vibrant and ever-evolving open world landscapes of Mexico with limitless, fun driving action in hundreds of the world's greatest cars. Lead breathtaking expeditions across the vibrant and ever-evolving open world landscapes of Mexico with limitless, fun driving action in hundreds of the world's greatest cars. Halo Infiniteautomatically installs with a high-resolution texture pack.
A Reddit thread revealed that this texture pack could tank performance on low-end and older hardware by a lot. One user reported jumping from 23 fps to anywhere from 72 to 100 fps on a GTX 980 Ti and Core i7-5820K, while another said they went from single-digit fps values to a smooth 60 fps. The good news is thatHalo Infinitetakes place mostly in the open world, so you won't have to adjust your settings. We recommend bumping down a notch on all of the settings compared to multiplayer. The minimum frame rate option is great for the campaign, too, though you shouldn't push it too far.
That's a respectable gain, but we got most of the way there with our optimized settings, and the dynamic resolution looks much worse. To be clear, you should use the minimum frame rate option. That said, it's best to push you over a frame rate target, not boost your performance beyond what your GPU should be capable of.
